Intervallo is an homage to the history and culture of Italy. The project takes its title from a show series aired by the State Italian TV, RAI, which became a symbol of Italian heritage and cultural identity during the ’70 and ’80. The show, aired daily, simply consisted of slides of famous Italian landmarks and less-known regional sites, accompanied by text commentary and classical music.
For this project, Casalegno’s studio meticulously collected and cataloged thousands of Italian postcards. Subsequently, this postcard dataset was employed to train a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) model, which in turn generated the visual content for the performance.
Premiered online in conjunction with the Italian National Day, on June 2nd, 2021.
The performance was part of the events organized jointly by the Italian Embassy in Vienna, the Permanent Mission of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna and the Permanent Mission of Italy to the OSCE in Vienna, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna.
