“Objects of engineering, instruments of control and dominion:
machines, motors, mechanisms, products of scientific knowledge.
And yet, there is nothing in knowledge which has not been first in the entire body,
whose gestural metamorphoses, mobile postures, very evolution imitate all that surrounds it.
Gestural as much as receptive, osseous, muscular, cardiovascular, neural..
bearer of the five senses, but with other functions than channelling exterior information toward
a central processor, the body recovers in this way a cognitive presence and function of its own”
Michel Serres, Variations on the Body, Univocal
In this installation two flat monitors, mass-produced household consumer products, become bodies themselves:
literally tied, restrained, coerced, enslaved subjects and objects of display. Dangerously lingering between
the viewers, they seem as they may fall anytime.
Some people have to be tied up to be free. By being physically constrained, we became more aware of our senses.
By becoming our objects, a latent violence sharpens our sensorial experience.
Produced and curated by Standard Practice and sarahcrown,
this project was premiered at the The Satellite Project, part of Miami Project 2015.
